Friends with Benefits

So they've put a title on it, friends with a thought out plan to have a sexual relationship are "friends with benefits". This type of relationship I believe has been going on forever but with its recent acceptance its been given a name. Due to societal change, acceptance of premarital sex and causal relationships there's no wonder this has been a popular thing also. The overall plan is to have sex, leave out emotional feelings and not having any strings attached. Convenience is the number factor in why friends may choose to have this kind of relationship. Some are attracted to this lifestyle because its safe in their opinion.

I didn't want to define friends with benefit with only my judgment of the relationship so I looked it up at Urbandictionary.com and this was an user's definition.

1. Relationship, that mimics a real partnership but is void or greatly lacking jealousy and other such emotions that come with a serious relationship.
2. A physically involved relationship, where both partners enjoy some comforts of sitting on the fence between serious relationship and simple friendship.
3. Any relationship that can only be categorized as being between Friends and Partners, also referred to as more than friends.

The friends with benefit relationship can usually form after a break up, because the individual may now feel relationships are too much work. Some people even opt for this type of relationship with their past relational partners. So the idea of getting sexual pleasure without getting your heart broken because both you and your partner understand that you're also doing your own thing. Looks to me that its an no emotional but totally physical type thing, but is it reality that it will remain so?

According to a study done by Bisson & Levine, 81 percent of those who have been a FWB relationship believe it is possible to have it. But 67 percent marked it impossible, who've also been in a FWB relationship. A lot of that judgment come from pre-installed ideas like sex should be with the one you love or those of moral and religious meaning. They might of had a bad experience and became tangled in feelings. These individuals could've also been hurt in a FWB relationship previously. Or the whole plan of how the friendship should be got complicated. In this video the two host offer both supporting and opposing rationale on whether it work:

Failures for these relationships were found to be because of possessed uncertainties on both sides. Ambiguity of the future and labels were big ones, worsened by the misstep to address it with their partners and that happens to be with both sexes. A big thing that can steer the relationship in the wrong direction is engagement in activities other than sex, that would usually be enjoyed with a boyfriend or girlfriend. The longer the relationship have been taking place the more difficult it is to jail some kind of feelings, unless your just a heartless individual, in my opinion. In conclusion if you're the type of person whom believes you can control your feelings and don't want to be in a committed relationship but still wants sexual relations, I recommend this type of relationship. But if not I advise you stay out of the no emotion zone.
